The Basement is Finished!!!

It only took two years but we finally finished the basement!!! It is such a relief to finally have it done. We had originally planned on finishing it the month before we moved into the house but we really missed that deadline.

The overall cost to finish everything was probably around 2500-3000. That includes all labor supplies and even our amazing carpet!!

When we bought the house it was a large family room with concrete walls and floors. We framed out about half of the walls then decided it was taking too long and we were lazy so we got two really nice guys to come in and finish the framing for us. They even framed out the really large door frame for the huge wardrobe sliding doors that we will be getting once we are out of debt.

After the framing was finished. Steve, his dad and brother's Bob and Boy came over and we put up the insulation and did the electrical work. We put recessed lighting and outlets.

Next we put up drywall. We got almost all of the drywall up on our own with the help of Steve's dad and brothers and our friend Logan. We finished all of the walls, they didn't all look very good but we did it. Then we put up half of the drywall on the ceiling. After that we had a hard time finding a time when everyone could come and finish the walls and we were getting tired of it and feeling bad for asking for all the help sooooo we hired a company to finish the drywall, mud, tape and texture all the walls and ceiling. They did an excellent job and we were so glad we didn't have to do anything for it. It took about four days total for them to get it done so for us it probably would have been another year.

After that I primed all the walls and ceilings painted several coats of orange and green on the walls. It took about 2 weeks to finish all the painting. Once the painting was done we went and looked at carpet. On the fourth of July we found the perfect one at Carpet one and we scheduled to have it installed.

Before they came and installed the carpet we put up base molding and framed out the door. Steve and I got all of that done in one night and it looked really good. The next day I caulked the seams and corners then painted it the day after. Just in time for carpet.

I took the Friday off that they came to install the carpet. They did an amazing job you can't see any seams. While they were working on that I also had some guys come and trim our four large silver maple trees out front. The carpet is amazing! Its soooo soft and stain resistant which is very important. The color is called sugar cookie and someday we will run it through the whole house.

We moved furniture back in and almost have everything set up and put away again. It was nice to finally get our display shelves up and unpack our toy/skeleton collections.

We love our the basement. Its our favorite room in the house. We spend all of our time down there. It is a very happy room.
